Some guildies ask the question, why does my guild need a ventrilo server? I will tell you why having a ventrilo server is important to your guild.
Lets take the game, World of Warcraft, also known as WoW. WoW you have several different types of groups that you can be a part of to accomplish a single goal. You have group quests that sometimes need 3 – 5 players to assist. You have 5 man dungeon groups. You also have 10 & 25 man raid groups. With all these groups, if you don’t have the proper communication tools, it can make you task much more difficult.
World of Warcraft does provide an in-game voice chat option, but at its current state, is nowhere close to what Ventrilo can offer, plus there are several advantages with Ventrilo over the in-game voice chat. WoW in-game voice chat only lets you voice chat with people you may have in a channel, or in a group. Once you leave that channel, or even leave that group/raid then you can no longer voice communicate with the other individuals left in that group. Also, at times, it can be really difficult to hear others that may be in the group with you. Ventrilo has built in tools to help you get around some of these headaches.
The Ventrilo application is very easy to use. It is a separate application that is run alongside your game. There have been times where you can get disconnected from the game, but not be disconnected from Ventrilo, so this offers a way for you to let your group know that you got “DC’d” (Disconnected). In-game chat, once you are out of the game, your voice communication goes down, so this is one of the best ventrilo features that I can talk about.
Another great feature is Ventrilo gives you the ability to change how loud, or how soft an individual can be. This is great because not everyone uses the same kind of mic, or the same headset, so one user can be really loud, while you might be able to barely here a different user. Ventrilo’s ability to individually adjust each person in ventrilo makes this a very handy feature.
Another handy ventrilo feature is the ability to have different channels with different topics. So for instance, lets say you had a two 10 man raids going, well more than likely you would have 2 channels setup for the purposes of raiding. This way, what is being said in each channel is only broadcast to the individuals in that channel. This is also a handy feature.
I hope this answers your question on why does my guild need a ventrilo server, because quite frankly, I don’t see how a guild can function without one!
