How many ventrilo slots should I purchase?

Ventrilo hosting works on a slot based system. In other words, you pay for how many simultaneous users that you want to have connected to your server. Depending on the size of your group, you may need more slots, but then again, you may need less.

Lets say, for instance, that you are in a World of Warcraft guild, and you have 40 people in your guild. You would not necessarily need a 40 slot ventrilo server. If your guild only used ventrilo when you were raiding, then you would purchase enough slots to handle the size of raid plus some. So if you have 40 people in your guild, and you do 25 man raids, I wouldn’t purchase the 25 slot server, I would go to the next step up like at ITG, the next step up would be 35 slots. 35 Slots would be perfect for you until your guild grew a little bit larger to where you are running a 10 man raid group and a 25 man raid group at once, then I would consider upgrading again.

What if you are a MLM / Network marketing company and you host meetings each week and you’re not sure how many slots you need, then choosing how mnay slots becomes a little bit more difficult. The trick here is you want to estimate how many slots you think you could use at any given time and start out there. Then once you get a feel for how many you are actually using, then you can downgrade to what you need. So say for instance you figured at one time you could have as many as 100 people online. From there, you should start out with a 100 slot server. Now lets say after 2 months goes by, you are only really using about 60 slots, then we would recommend that you downgrade to a 75 slot server. This way you still have a little room for a few extra people and you can accommodate the current members / prospects that you already have.
